Well, this is different. And I kind of love it. Even if there are things like colour balance (can you even have colour balance in black and white?) that are off. And why are the windows in the foreground dark, but not in the background? But the way my mind wandered as I drew it is what I love and the glimpses of bits and pieces of me and what I love that crept in – marketplaces, parks, rivers, flowers, cats…
It started with the trees and I honestly thought it was going to be a page of trees to start with, which would have been fun and mindful.
But then when I’d drawn these first few, their location in the bottom corner made me think they could be in a park and perhaps I could add some town or city buildings, so I drew the border and then started with the tower and added buildings around the tower.
And then the space in front of the buildings felt like a town square, so I thought it needed a market.
And then I realised that the best towns and cities (at least the ones I love the most) have water in them, usually a river or canal. And then I thought of the photos I have taken of rivers with buildings on the other side, and then I wanted a hill or mountain in the background.
And then I added some of the little details. And am just now realising that the person serving at the veg stall does not have any legs. Oops.
I was listening to the Three Point Perspective podcast where they are talking with Raissa Figueroa. I don’t know if that was why or how my mind got to go on an unusual wander (unusual for this Morning Ink practice – it can go wandering with pencil a fair bit), or if it was just where it would have headed this morning, regardless of what I listened to.
Another possible influence is thinking about things I like and that are part of who I am for a class exercise last night, and maybe that reminded me about how much I love wandering around European cities.
After a productive work day on Monday, yesterday was a lot slower, and even included a nap on the sofa in the afternoon. The weather did go horrible yesterday, which I think may well have affected us all, especially the migraine sufferer in the family.
I do feel I often have slow days that follow very productive days, so maybe today can be a productive one?
Thanks for stopping in. See you tomorrow.
Thanks for reading Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.
