Welcome to Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
I had a bad dream last night. Well, this morning, as my alarm woke me out of it. I almost never remember my dreams, and it’s interesting that my cPap app tells me I slept very well with no apnoea instances and no air leaks and with a full two a quarter hours of deep sleep (usually, I am lucky to get a whole hour).
Anyway, I was on a plane and my youngest was with me, and the plane was intermittently going under the water. The weird thing was that, while everyone was clearly scared, there was no screaming and the pilot was just fairly calming chatting about how they were trying to work out what was happening and they would keep us informed.
I guess I need to choose to believe that they did work it out and sort it and that we got wherever we were going.
I wonder if it’s a weird brain way to remind me that I will be going under the sea for 20 odd minutes next week. Something that I do find a bit disconcerting and my brain almost always sends me to sleep just before we go into the tunnel and wakes me a bit after we come out. Really. I have to concentrate so hard to not fall asleep during the crossing. Though, actually, this will be the first time doing it since having the cPap machine, so maybe I won’t fall asleep this time.
One more day of work and then I am done. And have a weekend of seeing our eldest off to uni, and then seeing my sister and going to the circus and cooking some nice food and playing some games. If I don’t get invoices sent out today, I will do them on Monday. And I also have to finish this week’s illustration.
And, look, I drew more birds! They are genuinely such a joy to draw, though. And there are soooooooo many different birds. You could probably draw a different bird every day for a few years.
Thanks so much for being here. Your presence on its own is a joy, but I love to hear from you, too, so please do feel free to leave a comment. About something that has resonated for you in today’s picture or in today’s words. Or about something completely unrelated. Tell me about your morning, your creative practice, your particular work or life juggling act. Anything. If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.
