I decided to start using a timer sooner than next week. I realised (with some helpful advice from my husband) that, if I want this to take a half hour maximum I need to make that the case, rather than just hope that I will speed up. So I set a timer for drawing (and then, when I hadn’t quite finished, I set a stopwatch to time how much longer I went over). I set the timer for 10 minutes and went 5 minutes over (the 5 minutes was literally changing the colours - note to self, sort your colour palette at the start and DO NOT DEVIATE). And I have now set the timer for 10 minutes for writing this post.
The illustration is inspired by a comment I saw in my Facebook memories from 8 years ago. To be honest, I rarely struggle to find motivation these days. What I struggle to find is time, for all the things I am motivated to do!
Goodness, I’m very slow. No wonder it’s been taking so much time. But I think using a timer is going to be really useful and help me get better at not going in and tidying every little line and so on. (Obviously, on this one I spent waaaaay too long on the sofa which left me literally no time to draw the person, hence she is just squiggly lines.) And my handwriting is awful when I’m not taking a bit of time on it. But that’s the point of this daily practice and timing. So I think I will definitely continue using the timer and stopwatch to keep me on target.
What do you struggle to find? Motivation? Time? Inspiration? Energy?
