Welcome to Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
I managed to get out for a bit of walking yesterday, though not a full 10,000 steps.
A little bit of canal time before popping into Waitrose.
And then I made butternut squash, spinach and ricotta lasagne, with a red pepper sauce (that was repressed from the soup from the day before) which was very nice, not just the eating, but the cooking and taking my time and being somewhat creative, even though it is loosely based on a favourite dish from a bistro (I think it was called Pierre Victoire, but my memory may be playing tricks on me) in Little Clarendon Street in Oxford back when we lived there (decades ago), and that I got the Bear at Rodborough too recreate for our wedding lunch (also decades ago).
I am very happy to have found my cooking creativity and exploration again.
And I listened to lots of Lorde, since I, and my youngest, will be going to see her next weekend.
Today, I get to have a coffee and bite to eat with some friends and try out a new café, and then later I have a Stroud Book Festival event to go to (and another tomorrow). And then Chris is planning to cook dinner.
So, a proper weekend.
Oh, and I ordered some fountain pen cleaning solution. I suspect that the paper of the sketchbook I am currently using (made from recycled coffee cups) is not helping and is clogging up the nib with the fibres. I have sixteen pages left and then will aim to switch back to the ones I started with. And will flush the pen daily in the meantime, once it’s had a proper clean!
If you didn’t see yesterday’s Morning Ink post, do pop over and take a look and vote in the poll.
I am feeling the need to do another Substack pivot, and would appreciate input from those of you who read/look.
Thanks so much for being here. Your presence on its own is a joy, but I love to hear from you, too, so please do feel free to leave a comment. About something that has resonated for you in today’s picture or in today’s words. Or about something completely unrelated. Tell me about your morning, your creative practice, your particular work or life juggling act. Anything. If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.

That plate of food looks good 😋
