Welcome to Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
It was mostly good being back at work yesterday, although I did accidentally eat at my desk and I didn’t go for a walk. I did stop before five and got through all the little bits of admin and emails that pile up when you’re away, as well as a few hours of actual work (I know the emails and the admin is actual work, too, but… you know, billing hours). And I don’t need to do any (publishing) work over the weekend, either, which is nice.
I do need to finish off a couple of festive pieces by tomorrow evening. I would also quite like to finish my third bird post piece and maybe do a little bit on the second giant cat piece.
And I didn’t manage to send out any outreach emails while I was away, so I would quite like to update my portfolio a bit (and, honestly, ideally tweak it so that it has different categories again, as I do think there’s probably way too much on the front page now I brought patterns back in), and then send out a bunch of emails at the start of the week, so they go out in September, because Frankfurt is in a couple of weeks.
And, of course, suddenly I’m coming up with a month’s worth of illustration business admin work that I somehow imagine I will get done in one weekend when I have two illustrations to finish, which, honestly is plenty! Just like the multitude of things I imagined I would do while away for a week, when, really, resting and doing some exploring and inspiration gathering was plenty.
Thanks so much for being here. Your presence on its own is a joy, but I love to hear from you, too, so please do feel free to leave a comment. About something that has resonated for you in today’s picture or in today’s words. Or about something completely unrelated. Tell me about your morning, your creative practice, your particular work or life juggling act. Anything. If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.

Your portfolio is so fun!
I really enjoy your short creative posts/newsletter.
