Welcome to Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
I walked at lunchtime yesterday, to get in before the rain, and also to be able to come back to my desk to work afterwards. Both successful. And I got 13,500 steps, which means my 7-day average was back over 10,000.
I walked up the cycle path and popped into Sainsbury’s and then back along the canal.
I think I still prefer the walk to be the marker of the end of the working day, but it’s good to keep other options open, for weather adjustments or for times when a good break between work tasks would help.
I made my mushroom risotto last night and it was very nice. I feel it would have benefited from some crisp air-fried mushrooms to scatter on the top, so will try that next time I make it. Though, as it’s one that only I like, it might not be in the rotation as much as I’d like.
I am going to make illustrated recipes of both mushroom recipes and I am now leaning towards using fountain pen drawings for the illustrations. Still to decide whether to keep them black and white or to add colour in some way or another.
Here’s a sneak peak.
I’m also not wedded to the lettering. So maybe try some other versions of that. I don’t think they should be as decorative as my usual Morning Ink days of the week.
I’ll be putting these on The Illustrated Plant Kitchen when they’re ready.
And last night we lit the fire and watched a film. Which was lovely. And a very good film (A Real Pain).
This was a very quick snap of the fire, as the film was starting, so not a brilliant photo.
Today is going to be a working Saturday to make sure I finish some development edit work in time to send feedback to the authors on Monday in time for them to get back to me in time for me to finish up for the final deadline.
I am OK with this. Though I would also quite like to have a lovely autumn Saturday with a stroll round the farmers market, pastries and hot chocolate, reading in the armchair, and leisurely cooking followed by another fire and film evening.
I will settle for some of it, especially if I can get a good chunk of the work done. And I may request Chris brings back pastries and mushrooms from the market, as he is planning to go in to see if the organic stall has burdock.
Thanks so much for being here. Your presence on its own is a joy, but I love to hear from you, too, so please do feel free to leave a comment. About something that has resonated for you in today’s picture or in today’s words. Or about something completely unrelated. Tell me about your morning, your creative practice, your particular work or life juggling act. Anything. If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.
