Welcome to Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
It seems I am manifesting the kind of weekend I would love. Yesterday it was sitting at a table learning and writing. Today it is sitting on a sofa reading. I must look back at these in a few weeks (or actually in about a month, as I will be on holiday the next weekend I am commitment free, which is a whole other thing), and remember to do these things when I have a free weekend.
I actually enjoyed yesterday. My brain fog lifted, which meant my work went well and I did about 5 hours. I cooked some leek and potato soup and semi-danced round the kitchen to Florence and the Machine on very loud. Semi-danced because I still had some pain, which stopped me doing full-on dancing. And then I sat in front of the TV while drawing (mostly tweaking and finishing other drawings, rather than doing anything new – I will show then in today’s Sofa Snippets) for a few hours, which is honestly one of my favourite things to do, especially at this time of the year.
The giant mug of coffee came first. Then the book. Then the coffee table. Then the sofa. Then the rug. Then the lamp. Then book shelf and books. Then the pictures.
The date stamp and tiles always come first actually and then the hand-lettered day. And then whatever picture or patterns I’m doing that day.
Thanks so much for being here. Your presence on its own is a joy, but I love to hear from you, too, so please do feel free to leave a comment. About something that has resonated for you in today’s picture or in today’s words. Or about something completely unrelated. Tell me about your morning, your creative practice, your particular work or life juggling act. Anything. If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.
