I started cutting my husband’s hair at the start of the pandemic and I’ve gotten quite good at it :) I find some odd joy in these small self-sufficiencies, cutting his hair and dyeing mine, repairing our small electric appliances, growing our own herbs on the balcony, mending some clothes as I can. I’m not amazing at any of these things but they make me happy.
The funny thing is we all went from going to hair dressers to cutting our own hair after the pandemic, apart from Chris, who now usually goes to a hairdresser after decades of cutting it himself. I am rubbish at doing others’ hair.
It is definitely very satisfying , being able to do some things yourself, even if (or maybe because) not like a professional. We can do a certain amount of minor plumbing and electrics ourselves, and a fair bit of DIY, but sometimes we realise that we have ended up spending more botching things ourselves than it would have cost to get a professional in!
Oh for sure it’s important to know your limits! I’m trying to fix my husband’s Sonicare toothbrush and it’s pretty exhilarating as I had to de-solder the old battery after taking the mechanism apart and I will solder the new one back on when it comes. But for electrical stuff and such I leave it to experts hahah
I am so excited about it ahhahaah :) And is really much easier than it sounds. All those little robotics kits I did with Lu are finally paying off hahah.
