I’m listening to The Colour Purple while drawing my Morning Ink at the moment. Well, I think this is only the second day I have done so. Yesterday I was joined by a daughter and had their current YouTube fave on in the background (which is actually quite funny, so I am not complaining at all). The day before I caught up on The Archers. And the day before that I think was a podcast day.
I have read The Colour Purple multiple times, the first time in my teens. We had (I am pretty sure I still have it) a Women’s Press copy of the book. It’s interesting listening to a book rather than reading it. It definitely has a different feel to it, and maybe allows you to get different insights than you do when reading. (I know that people call it reading when listening to audio books, too, but I need a way to differentiate between the two and ‘listening’ and ‘reading’ is right for me – I totally respect anyone’s right to call it ‘reading’!)
I have some work coming up (from next week, and roughly half my working hours) that will be the kind of thing where I can listen or watch at the same time, after a few . My default has mostly been to pop a bingey TV show on the second monitor – Gilmore Girls, Mad Men, New Amsterdam etc. etc. – the sort of thing that has a lot of talking and doesn’t require constant watching. I am wondering about switching to audio books for a bit instead. And also wondering how I would feel about listening to something I haven’t read yet. Not sure I’m ready for that. And so far there has always been something available on Borrowbox that I’ve read before. So maybe I’ll just wait until I run out and then decide.
