I am feeling the call of so many things right now and the overriding paucity of time to do them all. Evergreen tweet, right?
Also, my eyes. I need glasses to watch TV and different glasses to work at my desk. And I don’t need glasses for drawing or reading. For a long time I have watched TV while drawing. I have always felt bad about just watching TV. I used to iron while watching TV. Many many moons ago. The only purpose for the iron these days is to iron Hama beads and occasionally packaging paper so it can be used to draw on. I used to colour while watching TV. I used to sew while watching TV. And for the last decade and a half I have drawn while watching TV.
Only it’s hard now. Because if I look up from my drawing I can’t focus properly and it’s not easy to see what’s on the screen. So I have to have something that I can more listen to and just look up now and then and the blurs that are there are enough. Not every TV show can do that. Currently I seem to be in a Criminal Minds phase. And that works quite well because I don’t have to look too closely at the gore, but can get pulled into the puzzles and the psychology, and the soapy bits of the ensemble cast’s lives.
Mornings for go-with-the-flow inky pages. Chunks of studio time through the week for deep dives and curiosity and imagination and creative delving. And evenings in front of the TV for digital finishing on the iPad.
This is how I find, or make, the time at the moment. But one day the liminal times will be for something else and all of these things will fit into working time.
Maybe.
Before you go… Today was actually drawn in blue.
I think I definitely prefer black and white. And I am going to order another bottle of black ink so that I can go back to that comfortable space again.
Thanks for stopping by. See you tomorrow.
Thanks for reading Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription – just turn Morning Ink off, no need to fully unsubscribe!1
Some links may be affiliate links, and will earn me a few pennies.
If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I'll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.

We are getting old ! I’m due to collect my second pair of varifocals on Thursday. I’m mostly long sighted so need help with close up reading although everything is a bit blurry longer distance too. I’m just legal to drive without glasses but always wear them as I need sharp vision in my line of work. Since being prescribed glasses 6 years ago, I’ve not wanted my eyes to become totally reliant upon them so don’t wear glasses around the house - kindle and phone font size is increased instead and I don’t mind the tv being a bit blurry. This plan has worked as my long range vision has improved very slightly. However close up, things are slowly deteriorating so I’ve had to get a new prescription. Varifocals are brilliant once you adjust to them.
I was ready to agree with you that black and white is best i loved tour pislxture , bur scrolled down to see the photo of it in blue and white and I adore the blue and white it has more depth to me.
