Left some of the best daily habits to the VERY VERY end of the day today. Daily drawing and this little bit of writing. Incredibly busy with not especially creative work right now. Lots of things that should have been done before the holidays but seeped both into them and beyond. Which also means I’m taking tiny moments to look at train routes and diaries to dream about when and where I can go for my next travels.
Chris reminded me that, when we are very busy with work and doing things like working until 11pm at night (I did stop for a couple of hours to cook, eat - while reading - , put bins out and clean the kitchen, so I haven’t been working since 9am. But still…) it’s super important to fully appreciate the little things. Like ten minutes (it was actually only eight minutes!) drawing while blasting music through your headphones, taking a moment to breathe in the cold air after taking the bins out, chopping vegetables, stroking one of the cats, realising that your posture is sooooo much better after only nine days of daily yoga. And tomorrow, whatever happens, we will be eating out for Chris’s birthday, and absolutely not working in the evening.
So, if you’re struggling with too much work, or not enough time, or being ill or too tired, or something else*, maybe take a moment to see what you can fill your cup with. Hopefully there will be something.
* I know that there are some things that really can’t be approached with little tricks like this. And if that’s where you are I am truly sorry and hope that you will get through it and to a day when you can fill your cup and then some.
