Welcome to Morning Ink, where I share my daily fountain pen drawing and whatever thoughts (sometimes none, mostly reasonably short, occasionally long and very rambling) jump out and onto the screen. If you don’t want daily emails you can toggle them off by going to Manage subscription. 1
More birds. I like when what I am working on feeds into my Morning Ink pages. And I think it works the other way, too. While I have a bunch of default subjects that I will draw when my brain isn’t sending me any other loud messages, when I’m working on (or studying) something in particular that week or month the default will tend to change. And adding the Morning Ink, monochromatic (that’s the right word, isn’t it?) sketches in, which force concentrating on different elements, helps me think about shapes and features and details and how I might end up stylising and what patterns I can draw out or add in.
Also birds are fun to draw.
My husband sent me this link last night. What a great collection of plant food to refeeence or to just enjoy looking through.

I got lots more sleep last night, added to an afternoon nap that I had to have, because I had only had four and a half hours sleep Monday night and my head started to hurt. All that meant I managed five and a half hours work. Again, publishing work. I also did about two and a half hours of illustration work. And an hour of Morning Ink, which I suppose in a lot of ways, counts toward the illustration work tallies. And I may well need to admit to myself that four to five hours of publishing work is the sustainable norm for me and stop trying to plan seven hours publishing days!
Today will mostly be Spanish, with maybe an hour digital build work first, and I am pleased to say that it is not having any detrimental effect to be listening to Italian in the morning and working on Spanish in the day.
I am feeling the call to soups, and considering making a minestrone today. With borloti beans, which I think we have and perhaps some canellini beans too.
Thanks so much for being here. Your presence on its own is a joy, but I love to hear from you, too, so please do feel free to leave a comment. About something that has resonated for you in today’s picture or in today’s words. Or about something completely unrelated. Tell me about your morning, your creative practice, your particular work or life juggling act. Anything. If you want to go even further you can take out a paid subscription – if you’re happy to give me your postal address I’ll send you some art of some kind in the post.
And if you don’t like subscriptions (I totally get it!) you can ‘tip me’ instead. But really, your presence and comments are the best rewards – if they could be exchanged for food and electricity, I’d be so very happy.
