Hello and welcome! I’m Tasha Goddard, an illustrator and creative freelancer in my 50s.
I’m based in the UK, but my heart and stomach reside in the Mediterranean. One day, I hope, my body will also get to reside there! I have worked in publishing for three decades and I have also been making money from drawing or designing in some way or other for a couple of decades.
I write about:
illustration business
creative practice
freelancing life
books I read (or listen to)
other culture I consume (TV, film, theatre, exhibitions, etc.)
travel and languages
cooking and eating (particularly vegetarian and vegan food)
my thoughts and experiences of life as a post-menopausal, probably (undiagnosed) neurodivergent, Gen X, feminist woman.
I have realised that I go through phases of interests and obsessions, and I tend to tweak or pivot what I’m working on - or what I’m writing about and sharing online - depending on those phases. So, I am offering up and writing - and drawing - about whatever happen to be my current obsessions or interests.
I have tried to provide consistent ‘offerings’ on Substack but I tend to get either bored or frozen in fear of disappointing people because I haven’t fulfilled my promises. I do not have this problem with client work, somehow, though that is more because, as a freelancer, I can naturally tweak and pivot from job to job.
Sofa Snippets
So, I am going to stop making any big promises here, except that I will send you some Sofa Snippets most Sundays with bits and bobs from my desk, studio and kitchen table. And other deeper and longer essays/articles here and there about some of those topics listed above - or maybe some brand new ones.
Morning Ink
I am (currently - no promises for how long I will do this!) sharing my Morning Ink pages every day as a post here, as well as in Substack Notes. You will not be automatically subscribed to Morning Ink, but need to toggle it on if you want to regularly see these drawings. You do this by visiting the Manage Publication page and switching the toggle on (you can also toggle other missives on or off there, if you want to).
Paid subscriptions
Currently, I am not paywalling any posts. I make no promises that this will always be the case, but for the moment I would rather be writing to a lot of people than a handful.
Taking out a paid subscription will not get you anything different in the way of posts. However, it will support me and enable me to write and draw more, so if you enjoy what you read or see here, feel free to tip me by subscribing for a month, or longer.
If you do pay to subscribe, and are happy to give me a postal address for you, I will send you occasional goodies in the post. This might be a zine, a postcard, a print, a notebook, a greeting card.
Or you are always welcome to buy me a coffee.
Old Substacks
You can see old posts from the other substacks I wrote here:
I am no longer (currently) updating these. They were both examples of the phases or temporary obsessions mentioned above, and why I have decided to revert back to a ‘Tasha Goddard’ Substack where I write about whatever I want to in the current moment.
