Anyway back to comment on your actual post this time!! It’s such great issues you bring up. Personally I’m shamelessly riding the fact that my husband’s salary is pretty good for a while now (though his position, as everyone in the gaming industry right now, very precarious), and it’s been covering the massive gaps in my earnings. But as we are taking on more financial responsibility I am actually capitulating for now and looking for ‘real’ work, meaning salaried, hopefully. It’s sad that the world doesn’t leave more room for just breathing.
There's a lot of security in that, so totally get it. The whole paid sick leave and holidays (do they do that in Canada, actually? I know America is rubbish at it) and just not having to worry about where the next project is coming from is great. Every now and then I look at some job listings and think 'I could do that. I'd be really good at it,' and then I remember that I just really really don't like being an employee. Which is why I've only been one for about a tenth of my working life so far.
Good luck with the search and hope you find something that hits the right buttons and gives the flexibility you need and want.
Yeah it’s definitely better here than the States but probably not really European levels… it also depends a lot from job to job I think. It’s a little scary to be looking but part of me is also excited to try something new? I think what I realized via job search is I actually have a ton of stuff I’d sort of like to try doing - it’s just in too many cases the way you get treated/paid when doing that thing is the dealbreaker
That's great that you're feeling excited by it. Enjoy. And fingers crossed there's something with decent pay and treatment out there for you. I'll be interested to hear how the search goes.
I can't even now find the post that was supposed to go on?? How weird!! I find Substack does very weird things with my comments when I try to post from my phone.... Once again very sorry, totally wrong place :)
